FAQ: Why Can’t I Delete A Category?

Categories that are used by Cases cannot be deleted. If you are unable to delete a Category review your Cases (both open and closed) to ensure that the Case is not being used. If you are still unable to delete a specific Category you will need to purge your Cases.

When a case is deleted the data is still held in the database in case it was deleted in error. Purging Cases permanently removes these cases from the database. This operation can only be performed by an Office Administrator.

To purge deleted cases navigate to the case office administration pane. At the bottom of the screen select options and choose ‘Purge Deleted Cases’. Once the Cases have been purged you will be able to delete Categories that were still being used by those Cases.
